Biographies: Jordana Jacobs and Julie Carles

They’re not Martha…they’re real ladies who knit. Meet Jordana Jacobs and Julie Carles, co-owners of The Yarn Co., Manhattan’s premier yarn store.

Friends since their high school days in New York City, Jordana and Julie took up knitting while attending the University of Vermont. Their shared interest in knitting solidified their friendship, but the path to joint ownership of The Yarn Co., was by no means a straight one.

Following college, Jacobs attended Brooklyn Law School and worked on and off at The Yarn Co. for several years. During that time she honed her expertise and talents to include pattern design and sample making for Ralph Lauren couture. After graduating from law school in 1996, Jacobs pursued the law profession as an associate, and joined a Manhattan law firm. Nine months into her law career, Jacobs was presented with the opportunity to take over the long-established Yarn Co. She corralled Carles, who was beginning a career in medicine, and together they became the new owners of The Yarn Co.

Under Julie and Jordana’s ownership, The Yarn Co. has become Manhattan’s pre-eminent yarn store featuring the most complete line of supplies for knitting, crochet and needlepoint. Pay them a visit. Once you beginning knitting, like Julie and Jordana, you too will become a knitting devotee.
